Natural Plunge Pool
Pond
Like it's bigger brother the Recreation Swimming pond, these
plunge pool ponds are designed for people fed up with the red eyes and itchy skin that chlorine can
cause? So many people are now seeking
chemical free alternatives. Swim ponds or natural pools, as
some refer to them are a chemical free alternative
delivering exceptional water quality as mother nature
intended. Bathing in a natural swim pond can leave you
feeling fresh and rejuvenated, ready to take on your next
venture. Swim ponds can be attributed to the likes of
swimming in a creek or waterhole with plants and fish, all
creating a natural balanced ecosystem. How does a
natural plunge pool pond function?
These plunge pool sized natural
pools mimic
nature and utilise plants, rocks and gravel to biologically
filter your water. Water is pumped up through a wetland
filter and circulates continuously using energy efficient
low wattage pumps. There is an airstone in the deep plunge
section to create oxygenation of the water and constant
movement and circulation to to prevent geothermal layering
(where a warm layer of water sits on the top with cold water
in the bottom). Plants in
the system take up nutrient and help deliver vital oxygen to
the environment whereas rock and gravel create an immense
surface area for good microscopic beneficial bacteria to
colonise and break down waste nutrients into less harmful
substances.
How much does a natural plunge pool
pond cost?
This compact
plunge pond version of our recreation swimming ponds can get
you in the water with the fish and water lilies for around
$25k fully installed + pool fencing
With a compact
pond area of 4 x 3m with a 1.8m diameter fully tiled plunge
zone to 1.7m deep, these can fit in almost any garden.
There's also a large shelf area to 50cm deep for the kids to
splash around and even for plants and fish. Yes! A compact
natural filtered swimming hole in your own backyard.
It includes all the usual features of our larger recreation
ponds like a constructed wetland filter, mechanical skimmer,
circulation jets, low voltage night lights and an Iongen to
help control string algae. The plunge pond version comes
standard with a jetty dock to house the skimmer under. And
we'll even get the council building permits.
Do swim ponds or natural pools need
more maintenance than traditional pools?
No,
natural pools or swim ponds generally require less
maintenance than a traditional pool. There are still routine
chores such as emptying the skimmer basket and just like a
garden it will require periodical (water) garden maintenance. Regular removal
of dead and decaying plant matter is an excellent way of
exporting nutrient from the pond. Wetland filters do also require
an annual deep clean and it is advised to significantly stir
up or vacuum the gravel
bottom sections annually as well. Our team can provide
training on how to carry out this work or do it for you on
an routine schedule.
Our projects are built using a combination
of a small in-house construction
team with regular specialist subcontractors helping us out. All work,
plans and permits are arranged and
managed by Think Green Landscapes and Waterscapes.
A full range of
complementary landscape design and construction services are
also available to complete the garden around your pond project.
